Creating a Candle with Photoshop

Create A Candle

Candles come in many forms: from tiny birthday candles, to votive, and even virtual. Today we will learn to make a virtual candle using Adobe Photoshop. The Adobe Photoshop program has many tools. For this project I used just a few: Rectangular Marquee Tool, Pen Tool, Layer, Filter, Add a Layer; Style & Color Tool.

If you like this tutorial, share this post with your friends.

Step-1

To begin- Select: New Document. For this tutorial we will try these sizes: Width 1024; Height 768; Resolution; 72 pixels (feel free to experiment with different measurements after you have run through this exercise once through).

Step-2

Create a layer: Layer>; New>; Layer (Shift+Control+N) and make the background color black while keeping the candle color white.

Step-3

Select the Rectangular Marquee Tool draw a box (this is the white color).

Step-4

Select the Pen Tool then choose Anchor Point. Click on the first spot , drag to the second spot on the candle where you want the slope to happen. Click again to get it to curve the way you want. Select the area by hitting Ctrl+Enter. On the keyboard hit Delete. This should cut out the area selected with your anchor points.

Step-5

Time to check your work. Looking Good. Now choose the Pen Tool and draw the first bump in the candle stand.

Step-6

Do the same for the base of the candle stand (the second bump).

Step-7

Select the Pen Tool and draw a flame and add angle movement. Choose a color that is almost yellow.

Step-8

We are almost there. Now Select: Filter> Stylize> Wind> Stagger> and OK

Step-9

Select: Add a layer Style (show layer tool)> Drop Shows / Inner Glow/ Satin / Gradient Overlay> OK

Step-10

This should give you a lovely candle. Congratulations!

Experiment by making the base and candle a different color. Add a little shading. Add some blue to the flame. Most of all. Have lots of fun.
